Then
we settle for self-fulfillment rather than Perfect Happiness
This
mistaken identification leads us to presume our greatest potential
is to make this body-mind feel better, and so that is how we tend
to pass our lives, instead of finding out how to be restored to
our original Divine Identity, and engaging the practice that brings
about the real and eternal freedom of that restoration.
This chronic suffering, combined with the chronic loss of awareness
of God and their real nature, tends to lead beings to desperate
lives devoted to seeking and playing out various options for making
the body-mind with which they are identified feel better, or at
least, to desensitize it to the point where it doesn't have to
feel the terrible suffering that is inherent in "being" a separate,
limited, and mortal thing.
Such
a life of seeking and "blotto"ing out one's sensitivity altogether
(not only to suffering but to anything Greater), unfortunately
tends to keep "the goose in the bottle", to simply reinforce the
sense of separate self as ultimate reality.
